Olof Swensson Farm Tour in Montevideo, MN WSP
Register here to board the bus at Thompson Park Activity Center:
Arrive for your tour of the 17-acre family farmstead which epitomizes the immigrants dream. Founded by Olof Swensson at the turn of the century, he one of Minnesota's most innovative immigrants as a farmer, self-taught scholar, man of letters, visionary prophet, statesman, carpenter, brick-layer, and self-professed lay-minister. Tour the 22-room brick farm home and the timber framed barn, which attests to Swensson's skills as a designer and builder with its elaborate system of wind-bracing and notching.
Next, enjoy lunch at The Rivers Restaurant in Montevideo for the homemade meatloaf meal, smothered in gravy and served with vegetables, mashed potatoes, dinner roll, beverage and dessert.
Additionally, stop in historic Chippewa City Village just a few blocks away. A staff member will give a brief introduction and present materials for a self-guided experience through 24 buildings replicating a late 1800's village, complete with a town square, log cabins, 1880s church, millinery shop, blacksmith shop, general store and more. Historic Chippewa City inspired renowned artist Terry Redlin.
