Friendly Hills: Girls Flag Football League (Grades: 5-8)Friendly Hills EnrichmentJoin School District 197 Youth Enrichment as we enter our third year offering a Middle School Girls Flag Football League! The primary objective of this program is to have fun!! The program has been designed to give girls an opportunity to learn the basics of football and develop an appreciation for the game of football. It is a great way to learn the skills of teamwork, sportsmanship, hand-eye coordination and communication. Flag Football is a NON-CONTACT sport. Flags are worn on a belt around the waist and pulled off for the “tackle”. Flags/belts, jerseys and shorts are provided. Mouthguards are required. Tennis shoes are required, cleats recommended. No experience is necessary and everyone will play. Coached by Ms. Amanda Mahlstedt & Amy Lombardi, FHMS Teachers Kids can take the activity bus home at 5:15pm or have a parent pick-up at the school at 5pm. In the Introduction to Bonsai course, you will learn about basic bonsai techniques from how to keep your tree alive to how you'll prune and maintain the art form of your tree through the years. You will learn a little about the history of bonsai, the pots and bonsai soil used, how to water your tree and how much sun it should get. You will also learn about how to wire your tree and the various bonsai styles and resources should you want to pursue this hobby further. All supplies provided. GRASP Summer Correspondence (Grades: K-8)GRASP (Summer Correspondence)**Orders are sent in to GRASP on April 30th. No late registrations will be taken. **Please make sure your address/email/phone number in your Tridistrict account are all up to date in order to receive correspondence from GRASP. GRASP is a nine-week correspondence program which helps students maintain reading and math skills while they are on summer vacation. It should take you and your child approximately one hour per week for nine weeks to complete each weekly lesson. We suggest parents order the grade level just completed. If there are extenuating circumstances, order the level that is appropriate for your child. Prices include curriculum packet, completion awards and scoring service. GRASP has 9 lessons to be submitted during the summer—one per week. Each lesson reinforces the basic skills typically found in most curricula at that particular grade level. GRASP staff score the lesson and return it to the student with comments. Please select the correct GRASP Section: You can order 1 subject for your student for $39.00, either math or reading. Upon registering you will fill out a questionnaire on your students school, grade and select either the math or reading booklet. If you select the section for both subjects the cost is $59.00, you will fill out a questionnaire for the grade level preferred for each subject. You can choose different grade levels for reading and math. Books will be delivered to your child's school and handed out by their homeroom teacher in late May/early June. **Children in grades 4 to 8 can choose to do GRASP online instead of using the book and scan sheets. Garlough: Co-ed Soccer with DASH Sports (Grades: K-4)Garlough EnrichmentSoccer: DASH Sports soccer camps provide players a well-rounded soccer experience covering a broad range of soccer skills training (dribbling, passing, shooting, & defense) and skill-based games. Players will be challenged and grouped at an appropriate level while receiving instruction in a fun, positive environment while learning values of ‘Respect, Hustle, and Pride’. It’s time to develop your critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills through engineering disciplines. Jump into an exciting new school year with all-new lessons! Whether you're a new or returning student, the Engineering For Kids Jr. Engineering/STEM Club offers hands-on, engaging activities each week to spark curiosity and creativity. Students will explore engineering concepts while developing essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork—building confidence to tackle challenges in and out of the classroom. Spring Session: Order may vary: Mechanical Engineering Mini Trampoline Spring into action! Students explore elasticity and energy transfer as they build and test a mini trampoline. Civil Engineering Bird's Self-Propelled Boat Make a splash with engineering! Students learn about buoyancy and propulsion, then create a boat that moves on its own. Mechanical Engineering Straw Grabber Grab, lift, and move like a pro! Students investigate simple machines, then build a straw-based grabber to pick up small objects. Electrical Engineering Constellation Projector Light up the night sky! From sheep to chickens and pigs with lots of babies mixed in, we'll have a blast exploring the barn! Come and join the fun on the farm! Location and time: All classes will start and end at Garlough where students will be checked in and checked out of the class. The Dodge Naturalist will leave from Garlough at 2:15 p.m. to walk students to the Nature Center where classes will be held at the Farm Education Building. At 3:15 p.m. the students will walk back with the Naturalist to Garlough where parents will pick them up by 3:30 p.m. or they will join SAC if enrolled in the program. Glinda and Friends for Good Musical Theater with Mayer Arts (Grades: K-3)6: Camps Starting the Week of July 20Help Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West save Oz in the final act of this Wickedly Wonderful story! Choose a character, learn music and choreography and create your own musical. Learn how to properly speak your lines, block a scene, develop your character and much more! We will also play fun, creative theater games. All that is needed are comfortable clothing and shoes, a nut free snack and a water bottle.
