SSP - ACT Prep Class Virtual with Live InstructorHigh SchoolACT PREPARATORY COURSES Virtual ACT Prep Course: This course is designed for students who prefer to prep for the ACT in a virtual classroom. Four, three-hour classes are taught live via zoom by an Advantage instructor. Internet connection and a computer or tablet is required. Advantage Educational Programs provides an introduction to the ACT format and strategies for answering questions as well as instruction for the specific subject areas to be tested on the ACT College Entrance Exam. This 12-hour prep course (four 3-hour classes) is designed for students who wish to improve their test-taking skills and overall score on the ACT. Focal points of the program include diagnostic testing, science reasoning, math review and strategies, reading comprehension improvement, English strategies, writing essays, overcoming test anxiety, and time management. Tuition for the ACT prep course is a one-time fee of only $180 and in addition, students who register for this course may repeat the classes in future offerings, at no additional charge. Classes are offered throughout the year. An ACT Student Workbook will be provided in the first class, and students need only to bring notebook paper, pencils, calculator, and a small 3-ring binder or folder to class. SSP Driver's EducationSSP Driver's EducationOur Driver’s Education program is offered in partnership with A+ Driving School. The course is approved by the State of Minnesota and meets all requirements for training anyone under the age of 18. The course fee includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel instruction. For the virtual classroom series, you must attend by logging in to the live broadcast at class time each day on a device that has the ability to be seen as well as heard for the entire class time. Please provide participant's email address during the registration process to send the meeting invite. This email needs to be accessible from the device being used. SSP Swim Lessons: Level 1 (Ages 5 & Older)AquaticsLevel 1 (ages 5 and up) - Introduction to Aquatic Skills Participants, ages 5 and up, become comfortable in the water learning basic skills. Skills performed with assistance include: Enter and exit the water safely Submerge and explore underwater Glide on front and back Float on back Explore treading Roll over: front to back/back to front Swim on front and back, 5 yd. Exit Skills: Enter unassisted, move 5 yd., bob 4 times and exit the water Front glide 2 yd., roll to back and float 5 sec., recover to vertical without assistance. Skills include: Jump into shoulder-deep water Breath control, bobbing and rotary breathing Float and glide on front and back Roll over: front to back/back to front Change direction while swimming Tread water, 15 sec. Swim on front and back, 15 yd. Exit Skills: Jump into shoulder-deep water, tread water or float 15 sec., swim on front and/or back for 5 yd. and exit the water Back float 15 sec., roll to front and recover to a vertical position Swim on front 5 yd., roll to back and float 15 sec., roll to front and continue swimming 5 yd. Swim front crawl, 15 yd. and elementary backstroke 15 yd. Prerequisite: Children must have completed Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 2 or have equivalent skills. Starting SoonSummer Open Swim at SSP Central Square!AquaticsThe SSP outdoor lap pool sadly is closed this summer:( Come swim inside at Central Square for Open Swim!Mondays 3:00-5:00pm and 5:30-7:30pmTuesdays 11:15am-2:00pm and 5:30-7:30pmThursdays 11:15am-2:00pm and 5:30-7:30pm All ages welcome when accompanied by a parent/adult guardian. **Must sign in at the front desk to verify online registration or pay session fee.**Online registration open until 8:00pm day before session. Session is cancelled if not minimum registrations.Drop-ins welcome if session has met minimum attendance. Children 6 and under must have an adult in the water. Diving board is open for any swimmer who passes the deep water swim test. Summer SSP Swim Club (Ages 9-13)Sports & RecreationAre you looking for a local opportunity to refine your strokes and build endurance for swim team? Want some game time in the water with other swimmers? Swim Club at Central Square is just the place to build up your swimming muscles and enjoy the water. Workouts will include water safety skills, building fitness as a swimmer and fundamentals of using the diving board. Registration requirement: Completed Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4 or equivalent.
