    Intro to Lifeguarding

Ever wonder what having a job as a lifeguard would be like? This course provides a high-energy, hands-on look at the responsibilities of a professional lifeguard. This is a prep course to give you an idea of the R.24 Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course. What Participants Will Learn: Surveillance & Victim Recognition: Learn the "10/20 protection standard"—scanning your zone in 10 seconds and being able to reach a victim in 20. Emergency Response Basics: An introduction to CPR, AED use, and First Aid. While this is often a non-certification class, it will provide basic emergency response. Professional Water Entries: Practice specialized entries like the Stride Jump and Compact Jump to enter the water safely while keeping eyes on a victim. Rescue Maneuvers: Introduction to using professional equipment like rescue tubes, resuscitation masks, life ring and pool hook. Leadership & Communication: Develop the "soft skills" of the job, including public relations and directing bystanders during an emergency. Prerequisite: You must have passed a Level 4 Learn to Swim program and be able to swim 50 yards freestyle and be comfortable jumping in and out of deep water.
